The End of Times
Almost every religion has an End of Times narrative. Christianity and Islam have the anti-Christ narrative, the return of Jesus to Earth, and the restoration of justice after evil has become widespread. Scriptures describe a final day when the trumpet will be sounded, and people will come out of their graves and emerge for the Day of Judgement. There was a time when the end of the world seemed hypothetical. It was confined to the realm of unfounded or unproven beliefs that, to the disbeliever, seemed impractical and absurd. Today, whether you believe in Christianity or Islam, or whether you are a disbeliever, the idea that the world can come to an end isn’t implausible anymore. We know through science and geopolitics that any number of events could destroy life on this planet. To the believer, the question isn’t whether the End of Times will come; it is whether or not we leave this world with faith in our hearts. That faith cannot be prescribed or forced. We don’t know what your standing is before God. What we do know is that there’s a possibility that after most people die, some will remain. How will those who remain survive? This article is in case you are amongst the survivors.
You are going to live in a world where the supermarket, the electric grid, the petrol station, the bank, and the supply chains no longer exist. Those likely to survive will be the now-poor who live in rural areas without any of these modern luxuries I just mentioned. They already don’t have electricity, they don’t have running water, they don’t have petrol stations, and they don’t have banks. The meek shall inherit the earth. The extended families and tribes will survive because they already have a system of “governance” that they have maintained for centuries that enables them to cooperate, to band together, and to share resources. The nuclear family? Well, they won’t survive. They won’t because they can’t. The nuclear family is an artificial construct created by central governments that will no longer exist.
The old lady living off her vegetable garden and who has chickens running in her backyard is already not reliant on the modern infrastructure. In fact, she doesn’t even use money because she doesn’t have a job. She is living the way she always lived. She is living the way her parents lived, and her grandparents lived. For her, the cosmic event will not change anything unless she happens to be killed. Failing that, she’ll survive in the same way she always has, without money, without electricity, without banks, without cars, without roads, and without a government.
As for the rest of us, we now need to learn from that old lady who is the only one who can actually teach us how to survive. We need to discount the fact that we have money, that we can go to the grocery store, that we can fill our cars with diesel, and that we can pay our way through life. None of that will matter, and in fact, it is increasingly clear that it is starting to matter less and less. I ran an inflation check against my income and found that my buying power has dropped by 40% over ten years. Meaning that despite working harder, I practically get poorer regardless of the increases in salary. In other words, it makes little sense to rely on money because it is a depreciating commodity. What should you be doing?
You should be investing in land that is fertile so that you can start growing your own food and keeping some of your own animals. You should be experimenting with living off-grid where you are not reliant on the government’s electricity and water, because they will not be able to provide these services in a catastrophic event. At any rate, because children have been coddled and the poor have been marginalized, there is no one to take over the running of the infrastructure. Good times created weak men. Even if the infrastructure is still there at the end of it all, there’ll be no one left from the generation who knew how to run factories and plants. Which brings us to my next point.
Invest in books. No, not eBooks. Not the type you read on your Kindle. Not the data on your phone. Start ordering paperbacks of books that show you how to do things. How to farm, how to build electric plants, how to build water plants, how to govern and run a country. You are going to have to start over, and you will need a knowledge base to do that.
Finally, in starting over, try to remember where the world went wrong. You don’t have to replicate the same shit that got us to the point of destroying ourselves as a species. You can actually do better. At least, you can certainly try. I don’t know if there is a solution to mitigating human greed, but if you survive, it’s going to be up to you to figure it out. Good Luck!
